HOW IS PELOTON USING AI TO IMPACT ITS COACHING SYSTEM

As of October 1st, 2025, Peloton entered a new AI era with the launch of its new Peloton IQ that is available across all pieces of connected Peloton Fitness Equipment. While Peloton IQ is widely available across Peloton Devices, it’s the functionality of the camera that elevates the AI powered fitness feedback loop to the next level.

The Peloton IQ software is amazing, but if you also want some insights on the bike hardware, feel free to read this Peloton Bike: Full Length Review & Hidden Usability Advantages blog post when you are done here.

WHAT IS PELOTON IQ?

Peloton IQ is an artificially intelligent AI coaching system that uses workout history, class performance and third party wearable data to power a fitness feedback loop to drive performance. The movement tracking camera on the Cross Training Series Bike+ helps take this feedback loop to the next level and is not available on any other bike in the series. So, yes, you can buy the Original Peloton Bike, Original Peloton Bike+ or the Cross Training Series Bike and still use Pelton IQ, but without actual live data from your workouts like rep count and weights used, the recommendations being provided won’t be as useful as they could be. A look at the 4 step feedback loop listed below, will show you how and where the live work out data can help the AI engine provide better recommendations.

the 4 step feedback loop is listed below

PLAN YOUR TRAINING!

Those who fail to plan, plan to fail. Fitness success with the Peloton AI coaching engine starts with planning your workouts. Peloton allows you to set goals, such as, get stronger, support weight and longevity. Once that’s set, you can identify what types of workouts you prefer, how often you can work out, how long you can work out and you can also give Peloton a general idea of your fitness level. Based on this information, Peloton makes a personalized class schedule that is specific to the information that you provided.

If you’re looking to lose weight, can take 30 minute classes 3 times a week and have a average fitness level, the Peloton coaching system is going to give you a workout plan specific to the information that you provided, you can follow that workout plan exactly how they present it or you can make modifications as you see fit. If you do decide to make adjustments, don’t change things up too drastically or you’re defeating the purpose of the coaching system. For example, you don’t want to switch out a 30 minute H.I.I.T. session with a Relaxation Yoga session, that type of recommendation simply will negate the purpose and structure of the initial workout plan presented by Peloton. Don’t worry Peloton is going to provide enough rest and recovery days for your body to recharge

COACH YOU IN REAL TIME

The ability of the Peloton Cross Training Series Bike+ to coach you in real time is facilitated by the camera/movement tracker. Before turning on “Display Form Feedback”, make sure the camera is open to actually see you when you are doing your workout. From that point, you simply go to the Profile settings, Preferences and turn on “Display Form Feedback”. From this point on, when you select strength classes with the movement tracking icon, Peloton will track your form during exercises, to make sure you are doing it correctly and focusing on the right muscle during the exercise in order to avoid injury.

  • Go Deeper In Your Squat
  • Keep Your Spine In Neutral Alignment During Your Deadlift
  • Lower The Weights More Slowly During A Bicep Curl

Those are just a few of the recommendations you will hear during your workout. You will be able to correct any form issues in real time, because you will be able to see yourself on the screen and make the appropriate corrections in real time.

ANALYZE YOUR PERFORMANCE

In addition to coaching you in real time to help you maintain proper form, Peloton has two additional features that helps analyze your performance and make improved workout recommendations in the future. Peloton now counts your reps during strength exercises and monitors the weights that you used to perform a certain exercise. These added features help during the workout and it also helps you to get the best possible workout the next time you take a class. During the workout, since you don’t have to worry about keeping a mental rep tally in your head, you can focus entirely on performing the exercise in the best possible manner to get the most out of every rep.  Going into the next workout, since Peloton keeps track of the weights that you used during a specific exercise, you know exactly what weight you used the last time that you took the class. You can pick right up where you left off, instead of guessing what you used and either underestimating where you were or simply staying at the same weight for way too long.

ADJUST YOUR FUTURE WORKOUTS AUTOMATICALLY

Based on all the features discussed, you can see that Peloton IQ is keeping track of how well you perform an exercise, what weights you use during an exercise and how many reps you did. This is critical information that is used to make suggestions and adjustments to the next set of classes that you take. If your form is great and you completed a high number of reps, Peloton is likely going to tell you to increase the weights. In the event that your form is poor or you simply aren’t completing enough reps, because the weight is too heavy, Peloton will likely tell you to drop the weight next time you take the class.  All of this can only be done, because of the movement tracker.

If you don’t have the Cross Training Series Bike+, you are still getting data from the Peloton Bike itself and third party wearables. Information such as heart rate, calories burned, cardio recovery and even sleep can be tracked to make workout recommendations. Can you get an insightful workout recommendation from Peloton with out the form feedback, rep count and weight monitoring, sure, but it definitely won’t be as effective and accurate as opposed to when you actually have that data being inserted into the AI workout model

If getting the most out of the Peloton IQ model is important to you, then the Peloton Cross Training Bike+ is the best option to do so.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
