PELOTON BIKE FULL LENGTH REVIEW & HIDDEN USABILITY ADVANTAGES

Stationary bikes are a great way to get in shape. There are a number of different exercise bikes that you can choose from to chase your fitness goals, NordickTrack, Echelon and Bowflex all offer great stationary bikes. However, market share statistics show that the Peloton Exercise Bike is the top stationary bike available in the market.

WHAT IS PELOTON GUIDE?

A contributing factor as to why people prefer the Peloton Stationary bike product line is because of how Peloton uses AI to enhance the bike riding and overall workout experience. The Peloton Guide is an AI powered camera device that connects to your Peloton bike to provide you with AI coaching suggestions. Users have the ability to monitor their form with the Peloton Guide movement tracker to make corrections in real time and the strength training feature offers muscle activity logging, rep counting and also provides tailored muscle specific workout programs.

FROM PELOTON GUIDE TO PELOTON IQ

All Peloton Exercise Equipment went improved dramatically when the New Peloton Cross Training Series launched in October 2025. When that launch happened, the Cross Training Bike+ took all Peloton workouts to the next level with a built in movement tracking Peloton Camera. Everything that made the Peloton Guide so amazing, came built in and standard with the new Peloton Cross Training Bike+.

HOW MUCH IS THE NEW PELOTON CROSS TRAINING BIKE?

The New Peloton Bike cost $2,695, the bump in price was a result of a variety of different features, but mainly because of how the integrated movement tracking camera improves the Peloton IQ experience, which is the new AI coaching engine that makes all workouts on the Peloton more interactive.

ASSESSING THE 4 PELOTON BIKE COMPONENTS

This Peloton Bike Review is not only going to analyze the bike components that are critical to a great bike riding experience, but also how Peloton IQ improves the quality of the rides and other workouts.  Assessing how the bike integrates into the home as it relates to how easy the bike fits into and moves around the home will be delved into as well.

HOW DO YOU FIT IN THE SADDLE?

When looking at different Peloton Bikes, it’s easy to get caught up in the different Peloton Bike Generations. Are you looking at a Peloton Generation 1, Peloton Generation 2 or Peloton Generation 3?

While that’s very important and this bike review will take a look at how the different screen generations impact the overall riding experience, none of that really matters if you can’t sit on the bike for an extended period of time comfortably to complete a workout. If your derriere is consistently sore after every workout, that’s an issue that can’t be understated either, because who wants to workout knowing that you’re going to be walking around and sitting on a sore buttocks all day long.

All that to say, the bike saddle/seat is very important. Two ways that the Peloton Bike Seat supports your body during your rides is through proper seat positioning and an improved ergonomic design in some of the bike models.

The bike seat on the Peloton moves along the vertical axis and the horizontal axis.

Vertically speaking, there is a numerical system on the vertical stem of the bike that ranges from 1 to 42. Your height is going to determine what the ideal vertical position is for you. When you’re riding, if you feel pressure in your hip joint at the top of the pedal stroke, there isn’t enough length in the bike seat stem. On the other hand, if it feels like your foot is lifting off the pedal at the bottom of every evolution, then the bike seat stem is too high.

Horizontally speaking, there is an alphabetical labeling system that identifies the proper position of the bike seat. Determining what the best seat position is from a horizontal perspective is simply going to come down to feel.

If you’re lucky enough to get a knowledgeable set of Peloton technicians like we did to set up your bike, based on their experience, they can give you some basic guidelines on where to position the bike seat for a comfortable ride. Just be sure to take a picture of the numbered position on the bike stem and the letter directly under the bike seat to remember the exact position that they recommended.

Hopefully, their recommendation works for you long term like ours did, but even if it doesn’t at least you have a good starting point to find a saddle position that is going to be comfortable for you to ride in.

No matter the positioning, if the bike seat doesn’t fit comfortably in your crotch, that is going to provide for a miserable riding experience. Thankfully Peloton thought about that as well and has created ergonomically designed seats that provide the best riding experience possible.

Those are the things that make the Peloton Bike seat great and I have never had any issues with my bike seat, aside from the Peloton bike seat recall.

If you are in the market for a Peloton, it’s best to buy a new one to avoid any possible issues with having a faulty bike seat. With that said, if a refurbished bike fits better in your budget, be sure to make sure the bike seat was replaced or connect with Peloton to get a replacement yourself.

WHAT HANDLE BAR POSITION FEELS BEST?

The handle bars on the Peloton Bike mimics the movement capabilities of the saddle, in that it can move vertically to improve the riders comfort level. There is a numbering system on the stem of the handle bars that provides users with an easy way to remember the exact position of the handle bars the last time they took a ride, it’s the same type of numbering system that’s found on the stem of the bike seat.

Unlike the bike seat, there is no horizontal movement on the handle bars for the Peloton. Depending on if you have mid to upper back issues, you really want to take this into consideration. I have back problems and depending on where I place my hands on the handle bar, I can feel added tension in my upper back. My back is the tightest at the top of the handle bars, improves slightly if I hold the handle bars around the mid section and I get full relief when I hold the handle bars at the base.

It’s quite possible that the positioning of the handle bar on the Peloton simply won’t be a comfortable fit for you, especially if you’re going to make bike riding a consistent part of your everyday life and if that’s the case, you’re better off taking a look at either the Bowflex VeloCore Bike or the Bowflex C6, those bikes have 4-way adjustable handlebars.

DO YOU PREFER DELTA CLIP IN PEDALS OR TOE CAGE PEDALS?

You’ve gotten this far through the review and you may be wondering why we’re even taking the time to review something as simple as the pedals on the Peloton. First, it’s important to know that some Peloton Pedals have caused safety issues for some consumers in the past. Consumers reported laceration issues that prompted Peloton to recall the PR70P pedal that was sold between July 2013 and May 2016. These were the first generation of Pedals, so in the event that you have come across an older generation bike that you would like to purchase, that hasn’t had the pedals switched out, you definitely want to take advantage of Peloton’s free Pedal replacement program.

Newly purchased Peloton Bike models haven’t had any Peloton Pedal recalls, but Peloton still recommends that you switch out your Pedals every year to avoid potential issues. At least once every 12 to 18 months, make a plan to get some new pedals along with any other bike accessories or Peloton products you may need.

Once you’re past the safety issues of the pedal, you can focus more on the operational aspects of this piece of Peloton Exercise Equipment. How does the pedal impact me when I am riding the bike and the only thing that effects that is whether or not you have Delta Clip In Pedals or toe cage pedals that allow you to slide your shoe in and out.

Right out of the box, Peloton comes with Delta clip in Pedals, these pedals work with the snazzy Peloton shoes that you have to buy to go along with the bike, if you are going to keep this type of pedal.

Dual function pedals are available as well. On one side, you can use the Delta Clip In Pedals and on the other side, you can use the toe cages and keep your regular shoes.  There really is no right or wrong answer here, it comes down to either personal opinion or business need.  In the first instance, you simply may like one pedal over another. In the second instance, and my wife and I can relate to this, you simply may have a business need that requires you to get a set of dual functional pedals. For instance, we have a cabin in Ellijay, GA and we provide guests with a Peloton. Some guests bring their Peloton shoes, while others would still like to use the bike with their regular shoes and that’s why we provide both options.

As it relates to the pedals, you simply have to decide what works best for you.

THE PELOTON BIKE TABLET BRINGS EVERYTHING TOGETHER!

Yes, the Peloton Bike itself is amazing, but it’s the tablet that brings everything together to create a cohesive interactive workout experience. The instructors are amazing, whether you prefer the instructors that have been around for a while like:

  1. Tunde Oyeneyin
  2. Cody Rigsby
  3. Ally Love
  4. Jess Sims
  5. Ben Alldis

Or you prefer some of the newer teachers, the bike tablet really impacts this experience, so you want to make the right choice here. When looking at tablets, which is the main factor in how much you are going to enjoy your Peloton Subscription, the main thing you are looking for is whether or not the tablet has the processing power to handle all the tasks that it needs to without any lag in the user experience.

The 6 things that are going to have the most impact on your user experience and are going to require the most resources are

  1. Tablet/User Interface Navigation
  2. Video Loading Capabilities
  3. Video Playback Capabilities
  4. Peloton IQ
  5. Streaming Services
  6. Resistance

Simply put, the Peloton Generation 3 is going to have the most processing power and be more future compatible. It’s going to provide the best user experience and it’s going to have the ability to receive all the software updates that Peloton pushes out.

As it relates to the Peloton Generation 1 and Generation 2, the Peloton Generation 1 is no longer supported and doesn’t receive software updates, the second generation Peloton is a Viable option, but if you have a choice and can spend the extra money to get the third generation Peloton, do it, the extra processing power is going to impact the tablet in a major way as it relates to the 4 issues mentioned below.

TABLE/USER INTERFACE NAVIGATION

Peloton has employed a larger number of teachers as time has progressed. These teachers provide workout content in a wide variety of exercise disciplines, some of which are listed below.

  1. Running
  2. Strength Training
  3. Yoga
  4. Boxing

The variety of workout content and unique personalities to teach the classes is great. You want to be able to access these different workouts and teachers without experiencing any lag time. The newer generation of Peloton tablet and the improved processing power of that tablet is going to make it easier for you to scroll up and down the page, click into various workout classes to view the playlist and see how the workout is structured. Filtering is going to be improved as well, choosing a teacher, deciding what body part to work out and selecting a particular workout length in order to provide a sub set of courses that all meet that requirement greatly depend on tablet speed, so select your Peloton Tablet wisely.

DO THE VIDEO CLASSES LOAD QUICKLY?

Video load time is going to be the best on the latest generation of the Peloton tablet as well. Loading videos is a resource intensive process on any digitally connected device and the Peloton tablet is no different. The video is going to be loaded up and ready for playback quicker on the Peloton Generation 3 as opposed to any of the previous generations

DO THE CLASSES PLAY WITHOUT FREEZING?

The most important out of these 4 resource intensive processes is the ability of the tablet to simply playback the video continuously without interruption, to allow you to see and complete your workout. Again, the third generation Peloton Tablet is going to be the ideal choice in order to have the best playback experience

FULLY ENJOYING THE PELOTON IQ REQUIRES RESOURCES

The AI powered coaching system is an amazing new feature that Peloton has implemented, but it is resource intensive. Peloton IQ allows you to set fitness goals, visually monitor your workout, provide form feedback on the exercises that you are performing, counts the amount of reps that you have completed, pulls in third party wearable data and then combines all that to provide the most relevant workout recommendations to help you not only reach your fitness goals, but blow past them in amazing fashion. A high amount of computer resources is going to have to be allocated to performing everything that Peloton AI is capable of, when you combine that with the user interface navigation, workout video load time and workout video playback continuity, you can see the importance of having the most technologically advanced tablet.

ENJOYING YOUR STREAMING SERVICES ON PELOTON IS RESOURCE INTENSIVE

There are a number of different instructors that are going to challenge you in a variety of ways, to me, the hardest Peloton instructors are Ben Aldis And Matt Welpers. Ben tends to have higher resistance levels throughout the course of the workout and challenges you to push through your limits. Welpers on the other hand is a great power zone instructor and the very nature of Power Zone is to improve your efficiency in each of your power zone levels so your ability to perform at the highest power zone is vastly improved. The very nature of that training is hard in and of itself, but add Welpers dedication to making his students better and his no nonsense attitude, he truly is one of the most challenging teachers available on the platform.

Having a challenging teacher is amazing, but sometimes as a busy adult, the only time you have to watch TV is when you are riding your Peloton. We have a T.V. In our Peloton home Gym and in the earlier days of Peloton, while I would have a class on, I would put one of my favorite streaming services on the T.V. to watch my favorite shows. When Peloton added the entertainment section to the Peloton, I never took another class again. Amazingly enough, Peloton still displays your metrics on the screen while your favorite shows are streaming, which allows me to keep an eye on my output level to make sure I am not slacking just because I am watching T.V. This is truly one of my favorite features, but is another thing that is going to push the tablets performance capabilities to it’s limits.

RESISTANCE AUTO ADJUST IS GREAT, BUT REQUIRES RESOURCES AS WELL

Fluctuating resistance levels are a key component to any Peloton work out. Some models you have to reach down to twist the knob. When I do this on our bike, I can clearly see the drop in my cadence and output numbers. Peloton probably noticed this as well and decided to make two major changes in certain bike models in the way that resistance is modified on the Peloton. Resistance can be auto adjusted to follow the call outs of the Peloton instructor, which allows you to simply focus on riding, instead of having to worry about reaching down to turn the knob. There are literally times when i was so focused on giving maximum effort, I realized that I missed a call out from the instructor and didn’t change the resistance level. On the other end of the spectrum, if the bike is automatically changing the resistance and it’s not at a level you are comfortable with, voice activated resistance modification is available as well. This added feature improves the Peloton experience, but is another resource intensive feature that simply requires processing power to perform at its best.

THE IMPORTANCE OF INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER & ROUTER LOCATION

Be sure to get the fastest internet possible in your home and place the router as close to the Peloton Bike as possible. Our early experience with Peloton was really annoying, user navigation was slow, work out content would take a long time to load and when they did load, they froze periodically through the work out. What we found out was that it had absolutely nothing to do with the tablet resources, it was the fact that we not only bought some cut rate internet service, but we put the router on one side of the house  and the Peloton Bike in the home gym on the other side of the house. All of that was a perfect storm to making our work out experience miserable and I actually stopped using the Peloton for a while.

HOW DOES THE PELOTON INTEGRATE INTO THE HOME?

Aside from the actual hardware and software components of the bike, the most important thing about the Peloton is how it integrates into the home. Do you have a home gym where you can place the Peloton or are you going to have to try and steal some square footage somewhere in the house where it doesn’t look completely out of place. Regardless of where you place the bike, the main concern should be, figuring out how the Peloton impacts the floor and is the Peloton stable in the position it is located.

ARE PELOTONS STABLE ON CARPET?

After thinking about where to place your bike in the home, you may determine that the best place to position it is somewhere in the household that has carpet. The main concern in a situation like this is whether or not the bike is going to be stable. Many of the instructors are going to have you come up out of the saddle and ride in a manner that is swaying your body from right to left. If the bike isn’t set in a stable position to begin with, this swinging motion could cause the bike to at minimum slightly lift up off the floor or at worst, tilt over completely.

Unlike everything else in this review, I have zero personal experience with how the bike performs when on carpet, so if you try it out and it doesn’t seem like a viable long term solution, because it doesn’t seem stable, find another place in the house for the bike.

IS THE PELOTON BIKE EASY TO MOVE AROUND?

Ideally, the first place you put your bike in the home is where it will live forever, but this simply may not be the case. In the event that you need to move the Peloton from one location in your home to another, Peloton has placed wheels on the front of the bike so when you tilt the bike forward it’s easy to roll the bike from one location to another. Movement of the bike, isn’t really the problem, the issue arises if the hallways are very thin it becomes difficult to get the bike around corners without hitting the screen or damaging the walls. If the first place you put the Peloton in your home doesn’t work, it’s reasonably easy to get the bike to another position in the house where the floor supports the bike better.

WILL PELOTON DAMAGE THE FLOOR?

Now that you’ve decided to move the bike to another surface, you need to take into consideration what type of surface you are placing it on and how heavy the bike is in combination with your weight.

At this point, if the carpet didn’t work, you’re more than likely placing the bike on a wooden or tile surface. With the bike being 140 lbs, two 2.5lb dumbbells on the back, plus whatever you weigh, that’s at best 300 lbs of pressure on your floor at best and upwards of 400 lbs at worst. While the Peloton Bike has never damaged our floor, we’ve never really given it a chance to.

In our home in Florida, we converted our garage space into a home gym, so on a surface that is designed to support cars, motorcycles and other motorized vehicles, there really is no concern for the floor being damaged. In our vacation home on the other hand, the wooden floors do give us cause for concern about whether or not consistent use over time will puncture the floor. To avoid finding out the answer to that question, we use a Peloton Bike Mat in our Georgia vacation home that provides enough support and cushion between the bike and the floor to avoid any issues with the floor being damaged.

PELOTON FINAL ASSESSMENT

We are happy with our Peloton Purchases and would recommend both the Peloton Bike and the Peloton Tread+ to anyone looking for a more time efficient and convenient way to get in shape. Our only regret with Peloton is getting one for our vacation cabin, because no one really uses it, to be honest, we don’t even use it when we are there. So if you don’t actually have a gym in your vacation home to put it in, my opinion is that a Peloton Bike isn’t worth it for a vacation home, but other than that, I have no complaints and think you will love the bike if you decide to purchase it.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
